The device detects the presence of a magnetic element near the sensor’s end. The sensor is mounted near an element that reflects vehicle movement. Most often, it is mounted near the wheel hub, detecting the movement of a magnetic element placed on the rotating hub. It can also be mounted near the driveshaft, detecting the movement of an additional magnetic element attached to the shaft. Due to its long operating distance, you may attempt to mount the sensor to detect magnetic elements placed on the wheel rim. Each approach of a magnetic element to the sensor’s end is detected by the sensor, which then transmits an electrical pulse to the trip meter.
